R Dark and Twisted Past Haunted House

The Orange City Sorosis Club is busy scaring up new victims for our 36th Annual Haunted House! This year, R Dark & Twisted Past, will open on Oct 17th, with
5 Rooms and 7 nights of Terror.

The Orange City Sorosis Club evolves each Halloween with a different theme from the last. Face your fears as you tour through historic landmarks where forgotten spirits await new victims. R Dark & Twisted Past’ will hurl you into the forgotten times, old legends and wicked folklore of our very own town. Prepare to be plunged into darkness where ghouls will breathe life into you worst nightmares. Brace yourself for the savage spirits who are out for blood and revenge. Don’t be surprised when the blood-curdling screams you hear turn out to be your own.

It will take over 60 volunteers to transform our 3,000 square foot building into a functional tomb of terror.  Last year we had over 2,000 visitors come through raising nearly $10,000. The money we raise goes toward charitable contributions benefiting area children.

At our annual Easter event volunteers hid over 6000 eggs, 2 prizes were awarded for each age group, and kids were provided a free lunch.   Kohl's Department Store sent out a team of employees who helped us with face painting, activities and crowd control. The City of Orange City provided a bounce house for kids to enjoy while waiting for lunch and photos.
Katy Seymour came out and took individual pictures with the Easter Bunny along with candid pics of the events. They have all been been posted at:

Humanitarian Services

Fundraisers are held throughout the year to generate funds and donations. We also rent our spacious hall for weddings and other events. This allows our organization to provide school supplies, funds, and scholarships to area schools and children. Each year we host an Easter Egg Hunt and free lunch for any and all children who attend. Throughout the year we sponsor children in Little League, Pop Warner football/cheer leading and other sporting events they may otherwise never experience. Our single most important event of the year is our Christmas offering. We provide local families with groceries, a family sized turkey with trimmings, and gifts for all the children. Our Senior Citizens receive a generous gift card to use at a local grocery store. A few weeks before Christmas we host "Lunch or Dinner with Santa".Children eat for free and get to visit with Santa Clause and sometimes Mrs. Clause. You can help us achieve our goals through volunteering, donations and food drives. If you know a family in Orange City who needs our assistance please have them give us a call. We can help.

The Sorosis Club of Orange City is a women's civic organization which was formed in 1958. A group of local women banded together to build a youth hall for the children of Orange City after the original hall was destroyed in a fire. The idea was to raise funds to have the hall rebuilt, and upon its completion, to continue care and maintain the hall for future generations. Through the hard-working efforts of the Sorosis Women and generous donations from local residents and Merchants, the hall was completed in the early 1960's and continues to operate today.

Sorosis: Meaning of the Word:
A term related to "sorority," which is derived from the Latin word soror or sister. The term "sororize" has sometimes been used as a parallel to "fraternize."
